During the National Week of Making, June 17 - June 23, 2016, Sankofa Global Project hosted Tinker Workshop Labs for 2,000 students in five schools in New York City. Students explored tinkering through robotics, and engineering (electrical, aerospace, chemical and mechanical). The Sankofa Global Project’s signature education programs were exhibited at World Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science, October 1 - October 2, 2016.
On October 3, 2016 President Barack Obama hosted the first White House South By South Lawn (SXSL) Festival of Ideas, Art, and Action. Although The White House received thousands of nominations, Tracy Gray, the Sankofa Global Project’s founder, was selected and invited to attend. At SXSL, changemakers, activists, and artists came together on the White House South Lawn to share how they're changing their communities.
In 2017, the Sankofa Global Project hosted education programs in a plethora of ways for many New York City communities: 1) a hackathon and three school events held at the Microsoft Flagship store; 2) a community event for Black History month at Twitter NYC 3) presentation of S.T.E.A.M. education at the Smart Cities 2017 STEAM Ahead Program and 4) representation at the New York State Makers Summit 5) hosted Tinker Workshop Labs at World Maker Faire 2017.
From October 17, 2018 - October 19, 2018, the Sankofa Global Project will host its first women-led venture, “It’s A Family Affair” - I.A.F.A. 2018. I.A.F.A. 2018 will take place at the Brooklyn Army Terminal Annex in Brooklyn, NY. The event will serve as a catalyst for schools, educators, students, families, and community leaders committed to connecting to and inspiring learners.
